Matariki Market at Takapuna
Takapuna’s fun-filled Matariki Mākete is on on the 11th July from 9am to 2pm. Held in the centre of Takapuna on Waiwharariki Anzac Square and Hurstmere Road, Takapuna’s Matariki market will be buzzing with some incredible local mahi toi (Māori arts and crafts) from a collective of Māori artists, with incredible art, pounamu, ceramic and harakeke raranga (flax weaving) on display. Traditional Māori wood carver and sculptor Uenuku Hawira will be demonstrating his craft, plus there will be traditional Māori foods to sample and local North Shore musician and songwriter Maranda will be entertaining the crowds with some well-known waiata. Visitors can even try their hand at weaving or learn more about Matariki and what each star represents at FREE workshops. It’s free for all whanau to enjoy, learn and engage in what Matariki represents.
